Blazers guard Jakob Zenon named NJCAA DIII Men's Basketball Player of the Year
Charlotte, NC - Dallas College-North Lake (TX) guard Jakob Zenon has been named the 2024 NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Player of the Year.
The sophomore wing averaged 18.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 41.5% from the three-point line. Zenon was named a 2024 NJCAA DIII Men's Basketball First-Team All-America selection earlier this week. The Fort Worth native scored his 1,000th point in the quarterfinals of the national tournament against Sandhills, a game in which he had 17 points.
"Jakob is exactly what every coach wants in a player. Off the court, he is a model citizen. He is respectful, helpful, and courteous. He maintains above a 3.0 grade point average, currently at 3.15. He is consistently in the gym getting extra shots up in the morning before class, in the afternoon before practice, and in the evening after practice. His work has paid dividends, with huge games against top JUCO programs in the country," Dallas-North Lake head coach Josh Mills said.
Zenon led the Blazers to its fifth national championship in school history and shined throughout. The wing averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.6 steals per game throughout the national tournament. In the national championship game against Herkimer (NY), Zenon scored 22 points and eight rebounds for the Blazers. These efforts earned Zenon All-Tournament Team honors.
"Jakob's presence on the court opened up offensive possibilities for others that led to the team shooting the nation's second-best three-point percentage in the country. He knew his role defensively in our system and did a tremendous job guarding multiple positions while pursuing rebounds at an average of 6.6 per game. I am confident he will make an immediate impact on whatever program he joins both on the court and culturally. I look forward to following his journey and dream of playing basketball at the next level and beyond.", Mills said.
