NJCAA celebrates 36th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day
Charlotte, NC – For the fifth consecutive year, the NJCAA celebrates the 36th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day, a day that recognizes the accomplishments of girls and women nationwide while promoting equality in sports. On Wednesday, February 2, the association and its member colleges will celebrate females that have paved the way for women today and individuals seizing an opportunity to make an impact on others.
This National Girls & Women in Sports Day, the association also looks ahead to the 50th anniversary of Title IX on June 23, 2022. Surviving many challenges through the decades, the Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is arguably one of the most significant pieces of civil rights legislation in America's history.
"National Girls & Women in Sports Day is an anticipated celebration that unites countless past, present, and future females from the association," stated McKenzie Garrison, NJCAA Sr. Director of Marketing & Communications, Governance. "Through a history of firsts, the NJCAA and its female pioneers demonstrate the opportunities available that transcend into real life and a career outside of athletics. This year's upcoming Title IX anniversary makes the day even more remarkable."
National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) began in 1987 as a special day in the nation's capital to recognize women's sports. The day unites organizations and individuals around the world, bringing nation attention girls and women in sports. On this day, member colleges, student-athletes, and fans are encouraged to take to social media using the hashtag Tweet #NJCAA4NGWSD to highlight the past and present success of female student-athletes, administrators, and athletic staff.
