NJCAA Sports Information Director of the Year
The NJCAA Sports Information Director of the Year is awarded to a sports information director who best exemplifies the overall purpose of promoting and leading their institution, athletic department, and student-athletes through sports information.
Created in the spring of 2020, the NJCAA Sports Information Director of the Year is part of the NJCAA Annual Awards that honor three distinct categories across the association - Athletic Director of the Year, Sports Information Director of the Year, and Athletic Trainer of the Year. These awards represent individuals who strive to create the optimal student-athlete experience on their campus while also performing duties that go far beyond the institutional level. Kevin Maloney - Jones College (MS)
Kevin Maloney has been the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information for the Jones Bobcats since July 2019. At Jones, Maloney is in charge of media relations efforts for all 10 of the Bobcats' highly successful programs. Maloney's responsibilities include creating and posting gameday graphics, managing gameday operations crews, live streaming, sourcing and contracting event photographers, and utilizing student workers to run cameras, scoreboards, and spotting for statistics. Maloney serves as the primary statistician for all Jones home games while also assuming music and public address responsibilities.
In addition to his work in sports information and communications, Maloney supports the Jones athletic department by assisting with fundraising efforts. Over the last three years, Maloney has raised more than $75,000 for the Bobcats which has helped to enhance equipment used for live streaming, signage in athletics facilities, and new equipment used to promote the college's teams and student-athletes.
Prior to Jones, Maloney spent nine successful years as the Sports Information Director at Northwest Mississippi Community College. While at Northwest, Maloney was the primary contact for 12 sports, spearheaded two website redesigns, increased the athletic department's social media presence by over 250 percent, promoted its athletes on a national level, and kept the media as well as Ranger fans, students, staff and parents informed and updated at all times.
His publications and social media platforms have garnered 20 state awards from the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM) and 13 national awards by College Sports Communicators, formerly CoSIDA, with 16 of those earning first-place recognition.
