Sadiaa Jones continues to pave the way for female administrators
Charlotte, NC - This National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the NJCAA is highlighting women that are paving the way for the future of college athletics and administration. Sadiaa Jones is a female inspiration in the NJCAA even after a short stint as athletic director of the Dallas College (TX) system. In June 2021, Jones became the first-ever athletic director. In addition to this role, Jones is an active committee member of the NJCAA Division III women's soccer and women's basketball committees.
"As a female director, this is a great opportunity for me, but it's also a chance for students to see that there are lots of possibilities for them in athletics and higher education," Jones said in Dallas College's press release announcing her hire. "I am grateful for the opportunity to work at Dallas College," Jones added.
A former basketball student-athlete and former women's basketball coach at various reputable institutions, Jones has a decorated resume across collegiate athletics and administration. In her last position, Jones was an associate athletic director at Northwest Oklahoma State University and began working there in 2016. In Jones' leadership at Northwestern, she managed the university, conference, and NCAA regulations, including all aspects of recruiting and eligibility of current and future student-athletes. In addition to her role in Compliance, Jones oversaw the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) as the program advisor and was the senior women's administrator (SWA) for the department. Prior to her role with the Rangers, Jones was an Athletic Director at Seminole State College (OK), serving as the first female athletic director in school history.
As many know, a career in athletics often means wearing different hats, being flexible, and juggling multiple tasks. Jones does just that by balancing student-athletes' well-being as well as their success in and out of the classroom. The compassion of Dallas' head athletic administrator does not stop internally. Jones is involved in regional and national athletic administration associations including the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics (NACWAA) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Jones served as an assistant women's basketball coach at the University of South Florida, University of Illinois at Chicago, Georgia Tech, and California State University Fresno for 12 years, also coaching golf and volleyball along the way. The NJCAA looks forward to following the success and accomplishments Jones achieves in the future.
